NWS Non-Precipitation Watches/Warnings/Advisories

Product

Criteria

Excessive Heat Watch Conditions are favorable for Heat Index values of 110 degrees or higher for 3 hours or more in the next 12 to 48 hours.
Freeze Watch Conditions are favorable for a freeze event to meet or exceed Freeze Warning criteria in the next 12 to 48 hours during the locally defined growing season.
High Wind Watch Conditions are favorable for sustained non-convective winds >= 40 mph (35 knots) lasting for one hour or longer and/or gusts >= 58 mph (50 knots) for any duration in in the next 12 to 48 hours.
Blowing Dust Advisory Widespread or localized blowing dust reducing visibilities to one mile or less, but greater than 1/4 mile. Winds of 25 mph or greater is usually required.
Dense Fog Advisory Widespread fog reducing visibilities to <= 1/4 mile.
Dense Smoke Advisory
 
Widespread or localized smoke reducing visibilities to 1/4 mile or less.
 
Freezing Fog Advisory
 
Very light ice accumulation from freezing fog.
Frost Advisory Minimum shelter temperature forecast to be between 32 to 36°F and conditions are conducive to frost during the growing season.
Heat Advisory Heat Index of 100 degrees or higher for 3 hours or more. Can continue overnight if the HI remains at or above 75 overnight. Do not issue if nighttime criteria are met and daytime criteria aren't expected.
Wind Advisory Sustained non-convective winds of 30 to 39 mph lasting for one hour or longer or winds between 45-57 mph (inclusive) for any duration.
Dust Storm Warning
 
Widespread or localized blowing dust reducing visibilities to 1/4 mile or less. Sustained winds of 25 mph or greater are usually required.
 
Excessive Heat Warning Heat Index of 110 degrees or higher for 3 hours or more.
Freeze Warning Temperatures at or below 32 F for a period of 2 hours or longer during the growing season.
High Wind Warning Sustained non-convective winds >= 40 mph (35 knots) lasting for one hour or longer or winds >= 58 mph (50 knots) for any duration.
