James H. "Jim" GorkaRegional Planner
Jim joined the Kalamazoo County Office of Emergency Management in 2003 as a consultant to develop the Kalamazoo County Hazard Mitigation Plan which was adopted by all 24 communities within Kalamazoo, approved by FEMA in 2006, and for which he was awarded the 2006 Mitigation-of-the-Year award by the Michigan Emergency Management Association. Jim retired from Eaton Corporation with 30 years of service in technical and managerial positions relating to customer-focused quality systems; and as the Manager of Market Research and Planning for North America. Jim has served the Kalamazoo OEM as a Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) volunteer since 1990; and was VP of the Kalamazoo Amateur Radio Club when it placed into service the NOAA Weather Radio station WWF-34 which has been broadcasting weather radio to Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties continuously since 1991. Jim enjoys Amateur Radio, Motorcycling, traveling, and lives in Richland. Jim now serves as a Regional Planner within Michigan's 5th District; is the 5th District Liaison for MEMA; and represents the 5th District on the Michigan Citizen Corps State-wide Focus Group.
